Here are some skills in using Ubuntu Linux.

Classic Mode in Ubuntu

If you run Ubuntu in VirtualBox?, and you want to enable "Seamless Mode" (the application running in Ubuntu (the guest OS) will be shown as a window in your host OS), you need to make Ubuntu runs in the Classic Mode.

The following way works at least for Ubuntu 12.10 and 14.04.

  1. run this command:
    sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback

  2. Log out, and you can see the classic gnome on the menu (an icon which it near the user name, and it looks like a Ubuntu logo):
    • GNOME Flashback
    • GNOME Flashback (No effects)
    • Ubuntu (Default)
  3. Choose this one and then log in:
    • GNOME Flashback (No effects)
  4. See detail:  http://askubuntu.com/questions/211409/is-there-classic-mode-in-ubuntu-12-10

Swap Super + Alt

If you run Ubuntu as Guest OS and run Mac OS X as Host OS, you may want to swap the Super key and Alt key.

Method 1

The layout options can be changed in gnome-tweak-tool, in the "Typing" section. The setting to configure "Alt/Win? key behavior" is the last one in the list.

To install gnome-tweak-tool, you could enter this link in Firefox (which runs in Ubuntu):

 http://apt.ubuntu.com/p/gnome-tweak-tool

Method 2

setxkbmap -option altwin:swap_alt_win
